Alternatives & exemptions. Passing an American specialty board exam (initial or recertification) = 100 Category I hours; being up to date in a maintenance of certification program counts as the full CME requirement for the preceding 2 years.
Good to know. One board licenses MDs and DOs. Under rule 2025-285 (adopted 7-8-26) licenses are valid 2 years from issuance; the older Med 401.01 text tied expiry to July 1 of the renewal year.
