What is CE Broker, and does your board use it?

How the CE tracking system works for licensees, with a state-by-state list of boards that say they use it.

01 In short

CE Broker is an online continuing-education tracking system, run by Propelus, that many state licensing boards use as their official record of your CE. Approved providers report completions to your account, you self-report the rest, and your board sees your compliance status directly at renewal or audit. The Basic account is free, and you only have to use CE Broker if your own board says so: Florida's health boards, the Texas Medical Board and Ohio's counselor and social work board do; the Alabama Board of Nursing keeps its own CE records.

02 What it is

What is CE Broker?

CE Broker calls itself "the official continuing education tracking system" for more than 2 million licensed professionals, working with 100+ boards and 6,000+ providers across 200+ professions. Three groups use the same database. You report and track your CE. Your board reads your record and runs audits. Providers get courses approved and report completions.

It does not renew licenses. CE Broker's help center says so directly: it is a tracking platform, and renewal and fees stay with your state board's own system.

Most searches for "CE Broker" are people trying to log in. Go to cebroker.com and click Sign in. Licensee accounts are moving from passwords to a 6-digit code sent to your email, so check your inbox rather than hunting for an old password. Employer-sponsored accounts, providers and board staff still use passwords.

03 How boards use it

How do state boards use CE Broker?

A board that partners with CE Broker gets direct access to every licensee's course history and compliance status. No one mails transcripts. In Florida, the Department of Health says it now reviews your CE records in the electronic tracking system at the time of renewal: complete records renew without interruption, and incomplete ones prompt you to enter the missing hours first.

Some boards go further and block renewal. Louisiana's medical board says a licensee who is not compliant "will not be permitted to renew", and the Texas Medical Board warns that a license expiring November 30, 2026 cannot be renewed online if CE has not been reported to CE Broker.

Audits run through the same account. When a partnered board picks you, a red banner appears on your CE Broker home page with a "Complete audit" option. CE Broker's audit instructions say not to send certificates to the board office, because they will not be accepted there.

Reporting hours to CE Broker does not tell your board anything if the board is not partnered with CE Broker. CE Broker's own help center says to confirm renewal and audit steps with your board.

04 State-by-state table

Which states use CE Broker? Board-by-board table

Adoption is board by board, not state by state. In Georgia, the nursing board tracks CE in CE Broker while the medical board only recommends it. Every row below links to the board's own page that says how it uses CE Broker. If your board is not listed, we could not confirm it on an official page; that does not prove the board doesn't use it.

05 Free vs. paid accounts

Is CE Broker free? Basic vs. paid accounts

Yes, the Basic account is free. CE Broker's help center says "You are never required to pay for CE Broker", and that where it partners with your board the free Basic account is the official tracking system for renewal and audits. Boards say the same thing in their own words: Missouri's Dental Board writes that "you will never have to pay for a CE Broker Basic Account", and Oklahoma's osteopathic board calls a no-cost account "the minimum requirement".

The paid plans add convenience. The biggest difference is the compliance math: on Basic you compare the Requirements tab against your Course History yourself.

Table 2 CE Broker account plans: Basic (free) vs Professional, Pro+ and Concierge
PlanWhat CE Broker says it adds
Basic (free)Your state renewal requirements, self-reporting, course history, course search and compliance status. You check subject areas by hand.
ProfessionalA CE Compliance Transcript that calculates what is still missing, email alerts when providers report hours, phone, email and chat support.
Pro+Multi-state tracking plus courses marked "Included with Pro+". Only offered for some professions.
ConciergeAn account-manager team that reports CE for you: you email or fax certificates, and CE Broker says Concierge reporting takes 24 to 72 hours.
Features as listed in CE Broker's help center. Prices change, so check CE Broker's plans page. Compiled by MedCE Hub, checked Oct 31, 2026.

CE Broker notes that some state boards charge their own processing fee for reporting hours. That fee is separate from any CE Broker plan.

06 Who reports your hours

Who reports your hours: the provider or you?

Often both. Many board-approved providers report course completions straight to your CE Broker account. Courses taken through CE Broker's own course platforms are posted automatically.

Everything else you self-report. Log in, click Report CE, pick the license, choose the reporting option that matches the activity, answer the questions (date, hours, provider, course name) and attach the certificate. Credits usually go in one certificate at a time unless your board allows a transcript upload. Some subjects won't let you skip the attachment.

Watch the subject area. A course on opioid prescribing may be approved only as general hours, so it won't satisfy a mandatory controlled-substance requirement even though the topic matches. Click the course in your Course History to see which subject it was posted under.

A few regulators do not allow self-reporting at all. CE Broker names the Tennessee Real Estate Commission and the Ohio State Cosmetology Board as examples.

07 How long updates take

How long does it take for CE Broker to update?

Provider-reported courses can take up to 30 days to appear, and CE Broker says timing varies by provider. After 30 days you can self-report the course or ask the provider when they plan to report it.

Self-reported credit shows in your course history immediately, and CE Broker says your board can see it right away. So a Florida RN who finishes a 2-hour course the week before renewal shouldn't wait on the provider. Self-report it with the certificate and the status updates at once.

Some board-run courses post faster. The North Carolina Psychology Board says its Ethics Refresher is reported to your CE Broker account within 24 hours, and it asks you not to upload it again, because a second upload creates a duplicate record.

08 Pre-renewal check

How to check your CE in CE Broker before renewal

  1. Sign in at cebroker.com with the email on your account and enter the 6-digit code.
  2. Open the license you are renewing. If you hold several, check each one: you pick the license every time you report a course.
  3. Confirm the CE cycle dates on the Requirements tab. The hour counts on that tab apply only to that date range.
  4. Compare each required subject area with your Course History. If the Requirements tab asks for 2 hours of medical errors, one or more courses must be posted under that subject.
  5. Look for courses you took that are missing. If a provider has not reported after 30 days, self-report with the certificate.
  6. Check the status next to your license. Complete means CE is done; the renewal itself still happens on your board's website, where you pay the fee.
  7. Keep your certificates even after they are uploaded. Boards set their own record-keeping periods, and our state requirement pages list them.

09 If your board doesn't use it

What if your board does not use CE Broker?

Then CE Broker is just a personal log, and what counts is your board's own process. The Alabama Board of Nursing is a good example: approved providers send records to the Board, and nurses view and edit an Individual CE Record on the ABN website. See Alabama nursing CE requirements for the hours.

Other boards ask you to attest at renewal and keep certificates for a random audit. In that case keep your own folder of certificates, sorted by renewal cycle, and look up the record-keeping period on your state requirement page.

If you hold licenses in several states, a single CE Broker account will not cover a state that isn't partnered with it. Our multi-state CE planner lines up the hours and deadlines for each license so one course can count in more than one place where the rules allow.
