Alternatives & exemptions. Participation in an ABMS Maintenance of Certification program or the AOA Osteopathic Continuous Certification (OCC) program is considered equivalent to meeting the CME requirement. Board members' meeting time counts hour for hour.
Good to know. One board and one rule for MD and DO. CME must be earned on or before June 1 of each even-numbered year; licenses expire July 1 of even-numbered years. The rule (effective 08/26/2026) lists no mandatory topics; proposed changes are pending.
