What geriatrics conferences cover
Geriatrics and geriatric CME conferences center on older adults with several chronic conditions: dementia, falls, polypharmacy, frailty, advance care planning and nursing home care. The national geriatrics society meeting covers research and clinical practice. Smaller meetings serve long-term care medical directors, home-based primary care teams and geriatric psychiatry.
Primary care physicians, NPs and PAs often take geriatric medicine CME without fellowship training, because much of their panel is over 65. A geriatric psychiatry conference adds late-life depression, delirium and behavioral symptoms of dementia. If medication review is a big part of your job, search the agenda for deprescribing.

One meeting, several professions, several credit statements
Geriatric care is team care, and one conference may list physician, nursing, pharmacy and social work credit. Each approval often covers only part of the agenda. A pharmacist may find ACPE credit only on the medication sessions, and a social worker may find ASWB ACE approval only on the caregiver and capacity sessions. Count the sessions approved for your profession and ignore the headline total.
Physicians need AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. Geriatric nursing conference attendees need contact hours from an ANCC-accredited provider or another approval their board accepts, and geriatric nurse practitioners should watch the pharmacology subtotal.

Geriatric CME online and choosing a meeting
Geriatric CME online is a practical way to learn cognitive screening tools, fall-risk assessment and structured medication review. Academic geriatrics programs publish free geriatric CME; check that each module issues a certificate in your credit type.
An in-person meeting pays off when you want team training or quality projects with colleagues from nursing homes and home care. Some states require topics such as elder abuse recognition or dementia care for certain licenses, so check your board's list before you choose sessions.
