Who medical education conferences serve
Medical education conferences are for people who teach and run training programs: medical school faculty, residency program directors and coordinators, nursing and pharmacy educators, simulation staff and continuing education planners. Sessions cover curriculum design, assessment, feedback, accreditation standards and learner wellbeing.
Residency leaders often go to their specialty's educator meeting. Undergraduate educators tend toward academic medicine meetings and a regional medical education conference. Simulation educators have their own conferences with scenario-design workshops.

Credit for educators and CE planners
Some of these meetings award AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ or nursing contact hours; others award nothing, so read the statement before you register.
CE planners have a reason to attend beyond credit. Joint Accreditation for Interprofessional Continuing Education lets one organization be accredited for several professions through a single application, fee structure and set of standards; ASWB lists medicine, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, psychology and social work among them. Planners use these meetings to learn the ACCME and Joint Accreditation standards and compare outcomes data with peers.

Presenting your work, budgets and online options
Many educators attend because they are presenting. Abstract deadlines fall many months before an annual medical education conference, so watch the call for proposals. Accepted presenters sometimes get a registration discount.
Departments usually fund education conferences from faculty development money, which is separate from clinical CME allowances. Webinars from educator associations cover short skills such as giving feedback. Larger projects, such as a curriculum redesign, benefit from in-person workshops with people from other programs.
