02 Guide
Research meeting, niche meetings and regional ID updates
The national infectious disease meeting puts research, clinical ID, HIV, stewardship, infection prevention and public health under one roof. Narrower conferences cover HIV care, transplant ID, travel medicine, diagnostics or pediatric infectious disease, and infection preventionists have meetings of their own.
General internists, hospitalists and primary care clinicians often prefer a regional ID update with practical sessions on antibiotic choice, outpatient parenteral therapy, sexually transmitted infections and adult vaccines. Go to a big infectious disease conference for new data. For decisions you make every week, a regional course is usually the better use of two days.
03 Guide
Stewardship teams and their credit
Antimicrobial stewardship pairs ID physicians with pharmacists, so ID meetings often list ACPE credit beside AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™. A pharmacist can read each session's universal activity number: it ends in P for pharmacists or T for technicians, and the provider must upload your NABP e-Profile ID to CPE Monitor within 60 days.
ABIM-certified ID physicians earn MOC points only for sessions registered for MOC. Infection preventionists and nurses look for ANCC-accredited contact hours. Each credit type may cover a different slice of the agenda, so mark the sessions that count for you.
04 Guide
Infectious disease CME online and outbreak timing
Conferences are planned a year ahead, so during an outbreak, infectious disease CME online is the faster source. Public health agencies, journals and societies publish short updates, many of them free.
Large ID meetings are annual, and recordings are sometimes sold afterward with credit for a limited period. If you go in person, plan the poster hall and the interactive case sessions, which recordings capture poorly. Bring questions about local resistance patterns; that conversation with other clinicians is hard to get from a webinar.
