| Topic | Hours | How often |
|---|---|---|
| Substance use disorders (DEA MATE Act)Controlled substance prescribers, licensing periods starting after Jan 1, 2024: one-time SBIRT training class; it also counts as the 3.5 controlled substance hours for that period | 3.5 | once |
| Controlled substances prescribingControlled substance prescribers (Schedule II/III opioids, hypnotics or psychostimulants): prescribing class with post-course assessment covering the FDA opioid REMS blueprint, Utah resources, documentation, office policies and medical cannabis | 3.5 | every renewal |
Alternatives & exemptions. No general CE hours: an APRN must be currently certified or recertified in the specialty area (APRNs licensed before July 1, 1992: 30 hours of approved CE plus 400 hours of practice). The 3.5 hours apply only to controlled substance prescribers.
Good to know. APRN licenses renew on a 2-year cycle. The statute text read was the 5/3/2023 version marked 'Renumbered 5/6/2026' (new section number not checked). dopl.utah.gov renewal pages were behind a Cloudflare check and were not read.
