03 Guide

Types of OB/GYN conferences

OB/GYN conferences include the national college meeting, subspecialty meetings in maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, urogynecology, minimally invasive surgery and reproductive medicine, and update courses for generalists. OB/GYN ultrasound CME courses are a separate group with scanning practice.

Generalists who do both deliveries and office gynecology usually get the most from a broad update. Laborists may prefer meetings with tracks on obstetric hemorrhage, hypertension and emergency drills. Surgeons should look for simulation or cadaver labs and check how many seats each lab has.

04 Guide

ABOG certification and credit for the obstetric team

Physicians need AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ for state licensure. ABOG runs its own Continuing Certification program and is piloting Amplified Continuing Education, which is designed to find and close knowledge gaps. A conference certificate does not automatically satisfy ABOG, so check your ABOG account for what counts.

Women's health NPs, certified nurse-midwives and labor and delivery nurses attend many of the same obstetrics and gynecology CME meetings. NPs should look for contact hours and pharmacology hours, nurses for ANCC-accredited contact hours. An obstetrics nursing conference often adds fetal monitoring sessions.

05 Guide

OB/GYN CME online and planning around call

OB/GYN CME online handles guideline updates on contraception, prenatal screening and menopause, and many modules are free or cheap. Ultrasound and surgical skills still need in-person teaching.

Obstetric call schedules are set early, so register and arrange coverage as soon as dates are announced. Check whether the meeting offers lactation rooms and childcare. If your state requires a topic such as opioid prescribing, pick sessions that cover it and keep the certificate that names the topic.

06 Questions

Which is the next one?

2026 Primary Care Fall Conference — Nov 6–7, 2026, Grand Forks, ND.

What is a CME/CE conference?

A meeting whose sessions are accredited for continuing education — AMA PRA Category 1 Credit for physicians, ANCC contact hours for nurses, ACPE for pharmacy, RACE for veterinary teams — so the hours count toward license renewal and certification.

How do you earn CE credit at a conference?

Attend the accredited sessions, then complete the accredited provider's evaluation to claim credit; the provider issues the certificate you keep for license renewal and audits.
