About Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy
Many pharmacy societies organize around where pharmacists practice. AMCP organizes around how medications get covered and paid for. Its members include pharmacists, physicians, nurses and people from life sciences companies, and their shared work is clinical evidence, economics and medication benefit design at health plans and pharmacy benefit managers.
Two national meetings carry that focus. The spring annual meeting and the fall Nexus meeting both offer CE, and Nexus advertises CE-accredited sessions on formulary development, value-based care, biosimilars and real-world evidence. Expect many attendees from payers, PBMs and manufacturers, along with poster tours, a residency and fellowship showcase and a good deal of business networking.
A bedside clinician may find the content removed from daily patient care. It suits someone moving toward formulary or population health work, and AMCP's online Fundamentals of Managed Care Pharmacy course is a lower-stakes way to test the interest first.
