About American Association of Critical-Care Nurses
AACN began in 1969, when three nurses met at a kitchen table to talk about care in the newly spreading ICUs. It is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that now describes itself as the world's largest specialty nursing organization, with a community of 100,000+ nurses in acute, critical and progressive care.
For a bedside nurse, the event to look at is the National Teaching Institute & Critical Care Exposition. Contact hours are its practical draw, and the expo lets you try products in hands-on demonstrations. After the meeting, attendees have kept access to online sessions and certification review courses for a limited period, so some learning continues once you're home.
AACN also has a separate certification corporation, so review courses sit naturally beside the clinical program. The conference is built for nurses, which is the main way it differs from a physician society's critical care meeting.
