02 About
About American Association of Pharmacy Technicians
About ten technicians sat down to dinner after a pharmacist society meeting in Los Angeles, and by 1979 that conversation had become the Association of Pharmacy Technicians. It took its current national name in 1991. AAPT calls itself the first pharmacy technician association and says volunteer technicians still run it.
That origin explains the character of its meetings. Everything is aimed at technicians, not at pharmacists with a technician track added on. The yearly national convention can be attended in person or virtually, and virtual attendees get temporary access to session recordings and can still earn CE from them. A shorter fall seminar suits those who want a few hours rather than a trip. There is also a subscription-style CE program that sends members topics by email, including required pharmacy law and patient safety subjects.
We could not confirm the accrediting body from the pages we reviewed, so check the credit statement for each program against your state's technician requirements.
