02 About
About American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC)
ANCC sits behind a lot of nursing credentials without being a typical member society. Incorporated in 1990 as a nonprofit subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, it certifies individual nurses, runs the Magnet and Pathway to Excellence recognition programs for organizations, and accredits providers of nursing continuing professional development.
Its main gathering is the joint Magnet and Pathway conference, which ANCC promotes as the largest conference for professional nursing. The audience runs from clinical and school nurses to chief nursing officers and advanced practice providers, and attendees can earn ANCC contact hours across many concurrent sessions.
The program leans toward organizational practice: how recognized hospitals and long-term care facilities reach and keep those designations, what has worked for their teams, and where new research fits. That makes it especially useful for nurses whose employer is pursuing or renewing a designation. Someone looking for deep teaching in one clinical specialty would likely do better at that specialty's own meeting.
