02 About
About Congress of Neurological Surgeons
Young neurosurgeons returning home after World War II wanted a way to sharpen their skills, and on May 10, 1951 they founded the CNS. It now reports more than 11,000 neurosurgeons worldwide among its members. Residents are a clear audience, and the education catalog reflects that, with board preparation resources, SANS self-assessment modules and a case library for trainees.
The annual meeting has been the society's main gathering since that first year. Expect the full range of the specialty: spine and peripheral nerve, cerebrovascular, pediatric, functional, trauma and critical care, and tumors, plus non-clinical topics like coding, practice management and ethics. Nurses, research scientists and other members of the neurosurgical team can also take part in CNS education.
Smaller options exist for narrower needs, such as an oral board review course and a skull base fellows course. CNS says it works with other organizations on neurosurgical education, so the annual meeting need not be your only source.
