About International Congress of Oral Implantologists
Implant dentistry is the only subject at ICOI, and has been since 1972. The group describes itself as the world's largest dental implant organization, with a membership that takes in general dentists, oral surgeons, periodontists, prosthodontists, orthodontists, endodontists, lab technicians and auxiliaries. For a general dentist adding implants, sitting among specialists is part of the appeal.
Credit is offered under two recognized systems: ICOI lists itself as a nationally approved AGD PACE provider and an ADA CERP recognized provider. Events range from its flagship World Congress and a winter symposium to a one-day symposium with NYU and smaller courses taught at its central office.
Some dentists attend with a credential in mind. ICOI Fellowship has requirements around completed implant cases and hours of implant education, and keeping it means attending an ICOI meeting periodically, so planning a few meetings ahead can pay off. Expect little outside implants; that narrow focus is the point of these meetings.
