02 About
About North Carolina Nurses Association
NCNA plays two roles in continuing education in its state. As a professional association for North Carolina's registered nurses, it runs its own conferences, webinars and workshops, and it is accredited through ANCC's Commission on Accreditation as an NCPD provider. It is also accredited as an approver, which means other organizations can come to NCNA to have their nursing education reviewed.
Its councils and commissions cover groups such as nurse practitioners and psychiatric nurses, and the larger events follow similar lines. Nurse practitioners and other advanced practice nurses have a spring symposium, psychiatric and mental health nurses have a yearly retreat, and the statewide convention brings the membership together. NCNA pitches these events on face-to-face conversation, and here that means talking with people who work under the same state rules.
Nurses from other states should expect a strong North Carolina focus. A national specialty conference would offer more depth on a single subject, with less local networking.
