Large veterinary shows vs focused small animal meetings
Small animal veterinary conferences range from national shows with hundreds of sessions and a big exhibit hall to state association meetings and focused courses in dentistry, surgery, emergency, internal medicine or behavior. Companion animal practitioners usually attend for medicine they can use in clinic the next week.
The large shows give choice but need planning: pick sessions ahead and check how far apart the rooms are. State meetings are smaller and cheaper and include state topics such as controlled-substance rules. Dentistry and ultrasound courses add wet labs with limited seats and separate fees.

RACE approval, state boards and technician credit
Look for the RACE statement on the program. RACE is the AAVSB's registry of approved veterinary continuing education, and RACE providers are searchable through CE Broker. Each state veterinary board sets renewal hours and may limit online or practice management hours, so check before counting a business session.
Veterinary technicians and assistants often have their own track at small animal meetings. Confirm that the RACE approval covers technicians and that your state's technician credentialing body accepts it.

Some practices send veterinarians and technicians to the same meeting so a new dental or anesthesia protocol is adopted by everyone at once. Compare team rates, lab fees and hotel blocks, which fill well before large shows.
