School psychology meetings and what they cover
School psychology conferences include the NASP annual convention, state association conferences and school mental health conferences that bring psychologists, counselors, social workers and nurses together. Common topics are assessment, special education law, behavior support, crisis response, consultation and suicide prevention.
State conferences cover your own special education rules and are easier to reach during the school year. The national convention offers more depth in assessment and research. A school mental health conference fits psychologists working in multi-tiered support systems.

NCSP renewal: 75 hours and the required topics
Nationally Certified School Psychologists renew with at least 75 hours of continuing professional development within 36 months. At least 10 of those hours must come from a NASP-approved provider or an APA-approved sponsor. At least 3 hours must cover ethics or the legal regulation of school psychology.
Since July 1, 2024, every renewal also needs 3 hours in equity, diversity and inclusion or social justice. Keep certificates that show hours by topic. State education departments and psychology boards may set separate rules for school-based or licensed practice.

Self-study limits, timing and cost
NASP caps self-study: up to 40 hours of formal self-study and 20 of informal self-study can count toward the 75. The remaining hours must come from other CPD categories, such as conferences and workshops.
Most school psychologists work on a school calendar, so meetings during breaks or in-service days are easier to attend. Districts sometimes pay when the topic fits a school improvement goal; ask before the year's budget is set, and add substitute coverage to the cost if your district requires it.
