04 Guide
Which credits count for a dental hygiene license
Dental hygiene conferences use the same provider programs as dentistry. ADA CERP and AGD PACE recognize or approve the organization that runs a course, and the course page should say which applies and how many credits each course carries. ADA CERP's site has a course search by subject across its recognized providers.
Dental hygiene CE requirements come from your state dental board, which sets the hours, the cycle and the mandatory topics for RDHs. Some boards also set a minimum of live hours. Read the rule for your state before you choose between a conference and online courses.
05 Guide
Hygiene tracks at dental meetings or local courses
Large dental meetings often run a full hygiene track beside the dentist program, and the office may pay for a team package. Traveling with the practice usually cuts hotel and mileage costs.
In-person dental hygiene CE courses near you, run by study clubs or local hygiene associations, are smaller and often hands-on. They suit instrumentation, ultrasonic scaling or periodontal therapy, where practice teaches more than slides. Check the seat limit and whether instruments or materials cost extra.
06 Guide
Free hygiene CE and when a conference pays off
Online courses that cost nothing cover many topics and can fill a cycle cheaply. Check that each one comes from a CERP-recognized or PACE-approved provider. ADA CERP publishes separate guidance on online activities, live and recorded, and your board may count those two formats differently.
A conference is worth the cost when you need live hours, hands-on time or a large block of hours just before a renewal deadline. Register early enough that the certificate arrives before you file the renewal.
