ASWB ACE approval and your state board
Social work conferences get ASWB ACE approval in one of two ways. An organization holds provider approval, or a single course or conference is approved on its own. ACE standards also require a provider to hold a specific conference approval for events ACE defines as conferences. Other providers use Joint Accreditation, which covers social work along with medicine, nursing, pharmacy and psychology.
The state board, not ASWB, decides how many hours you need and which approvals count. Read that rule, then find the ACE approval statement on the conference page. ACE requires providers to print the correct statement, plus the provider number when needed, on certificates.

Ethics hours and other required topics
If your board requires ethics, supervision or cultural competence hours, search the program for those topics first. ACE providers must label each course beginner, intermediate or advanced, which helps you skip sessions below your level.
An online course of free ethics CEUs for social work handles a single requirement. A conference makes more sense when you need several clinical hours plus the required ones. Book required-topic sessions first, because they are often scheduled only once.

In-person, near you or online
In-person social work conferences give you interactive workshops and peer contact. Social work conferences near you, such as those run by state chapters of professional associations, are more likely to cover your state's own law and practice rules.
Online formats help when you carry a full caseload. ACE providers may deliver a course only in the formats it was approved for, so in-person approval does not automatically cover a webinar version. Check whether your board limits self-study hours. Clinical and military social work conferences serve narrower audiences; confirm the approval covers your license.
