What RACE approval means for your license
Veterinary conferences in the US often list RACE approval. RACE is the AAVSB's Registry of Approved Continuing Education, which sets uniform standards for veterinary CE. Approved programs are searchable through CE Broker, and the AAVSB's RACEtrack keeps your completed hours in one record.
RACE does not set your hours. Your state veterinary board decides the total, the cycle and which formats count, and the AAVSB's regulatory board look-up points you to that board. Check whether it caps online or non-interactive hours before you plan a year of webinars. Keep certificates that name each session, its hours and its RACE approval.

Big multi-track shows or focused meetings
Large veterinary CE conferences run companion animal, equine, exotics, practice management and team tracks side by side. They suit clinics that send everyone. The cost is time: long walks between rooms and a huge exhibit hall eat into the hours you can attend each day.
Species and discipline meetings are smaller and lean on hands-on labs. Wet labs sell out first and are priced apart from general registration. When you compare upcoming veterinary conferences, total the lab hours and lecture hours separately, and ask whether the lab fee includes materials.

Free veterinary CE, online hours and controlled substances
Association and industry webinars, many of them free, fill gaps between meetings. Confirm RACE approval for each one and note whether it was live and interactive, because boards may count those formats differently. Download the certificate the same day rather than trusting the portal to keep it.
Veterinarians are the one group exempt from the DEA's one-time, eight-hour training on substance use disorders. Your state board may still require its own controlled-substance hours, and state association meetings are the usual place to find sessions on that state's rules.
