Research meetings versus CE conferences
Many psychology conferences are research meetings built around posters, symposia and student talks, and not every session carries CE for licensed psychologists. If you need hours, look for psychology continuing education conferences that state which sessions are approved and how much credit each one gives.
Licensing boards commonly accept CE from sponsors approved by the American Psychological Association. Other providers hold Joint Accreditation, which lets one organization award credit to several professions, psychology and social work among them. If the page says nothing about CE, assume there is none.

How a state board counts conference hours: California
Boards treat conference time in different ways, and California shows how much that matters. Psychologists there need 36 hours of continuing professional development per two-year renewal, drawn from at least two of four categories. Sponsored CE from approved entities, including APA and ACCME, counts for up to 27 of those hours.
Plain conference attendance is a separate category in California: one full day equals one hour, with a cap of six per renewal. At least four hours in laws and ethics and four in cultural diversity and/or social justice are part of the 36. Other states use other systems, so start with your own board's rule.

Near you, online or at a national meeting
For psychology conferences near you, start with your state psychological association. Its meetings are the likeliest place to find sessions on your own state's laws. A national convention gives you a wider choice of speakers, at the price of flights and cancelled appointments.
For online and hybrid meetings, check whether your board limits home-study hours and whether the live stream is approved separately from the recordings. Some conferences issue a certificate only after you scan in and out and finish an evaluation for each session.
